[0] Professor Neil reasons that: Alasdair McAne McEwin McAllester married Mariota Campbell the daughter of John Campbell of Ardkinglass and she appears to have been born ~1498. Her first marriage was to Alexander McNachtan of Dundaraw (Black Book of Taymouth). Alexander McNatchan and Mariota had two sons; Alexander and John and these two are mentioned in documents and in one Alexander refers to the MacGregor boys as his brothers. Alexander McNatchan died ~1527, and we know the marriage to Alasdair Ruadh occurred when she was ~40 years of age and near the end of her reproductive life. Alaster was given a precept of sasine dated 30/5/1540 (GD112/2/81/3) most likely near the time of the marriage to Mariota Campbell. Mariota only had a 5-7 year reproductive life span following the marriage. Alasdair Ruadh had 7 sons: John; Gregor; Ewan; Duncan and Patrick who were all described as german – legitimate sons of the marriage between Alasdair and Mariota. This is reality means that she would have been extremely unlikely to have additional issue.
